wool of our sheep

The wool of the icelandic sheep has two layers: the underlayer, which is called þel, and the top layer, which is called tog. These two layers produce different wools, which, when mixed, give lopi.

The wool of our sheep breed must be sheared twice a year, in spring and fall. Before sending it to the mill, we first sort it to remove as much plant material as possible, the faeces and the small pieces of wool that are too short. Afterwards, the fleece is sent for processing where it will be sorted again, washed, carded and finally spun. The skeins are then returned to us and the wool is ready to be used for your knitting, crochet, or other projects!

All the colors you see are those of our sheep, this diversity is one of the particularities of the icelandic sheep. The wool products are available online by clicking here or in public market by clicking here. As we have a small flock of sheep, the quantity of wool that we collect is limited. This means that these products are not available year round.
